Are You Hiding From God? Do You Have Hidden Sin?
Last night I had a dream that I was at work but I was naked. Someone had taken my clothes from me and I was shamefully walking around baring all for the world to see. I wanted to go shopping and buy some clothes but I realized to do that I’d have to go to the mall naked. It was an awful feeling being in that predicament. I wanted to hide but that wouldn’t solve my problem. Somehow, someway, I had to find some clothes to wear. I wanted to cover myself up.
In real life I tend to do the same thing with God. I commit hidden sins that I want to cover up. But even though I can hide those things from other people I can’t hide my sins from God. Psalm 69:5 says “God, you know what I have done wrong; I cannot hide my guilt from you.” Adam and Eve tried to cover themselves in the presence of God. Their sin separated them from the all holy God. Even though they tried to cover themselves God knew what they had done. He sees the hidden things of our heart.
The perfect solution?
The perfect solution would be to never sin again. But we have a sin nature thanks to Adam and Eve. We will often find ourselves doing something that isn’t pleasing to God. Even Paul said in Romans 7:19 “For the good that I wish I do not do, but the bad that I do not wish is what I practice.”
So what should we do when we do sin? The Bible says we should confess our sin to the Lord and He is faithful to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. David demonstrated this in Psalm 32: “When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer…I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my sin to the Lord”; and You forgave the guilt of my sin”
When we try to hide from God we are left with the burden of our guilt. When we confess our sin the Lord lifts that burden and we can enjoy a right relationship with Him again. Don’t let the burden of your sin keep you from fellowship with the Lord. Repent, confess, and live in the fullness of God’s love.
