HGTV’s Fixer Upper Star Chip Gaines is a true Christian example.

Earlier this week the website BuzzFeed posted an article sounding off about the fact that Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of Fixer Upper, went to a Bible believing church that taught the Word of God. Their gripe was over the fact that their church teaches what the Bible says about marriage where marriage is to be between a man and a woman. They were also finding fault that the Gaines’ church also preaches God’s Word which says homosexuality is a sin.

Now for the life of me I just don’t see the correlation between what church someone goes to and the TV show they are on. Because someone goes to a church you don’t like they should not have a TV show? Maybe we should ban all celebrities that are in to Scientology or New Age Mysticism. Oh wait, they aren’t against gays. And this is what this whole thing is about. The gay community is not just happy they don’t have to be “in the closet” anymore, they now want everyone everywhere to agree with them or be labeled intolerant. And that means any Bible believing Christian is a target to be bullied. My question is how is that being tolerant?

Chip’s response to BuzzFeed’s reporter Kate Aurthur’s commentary (it certainly wasn’t a news article) was one of true Christian tolerance. This is what he tweeted on Twitter.

In 1 Timothy 4:12 the Bible says to be a godly example and Chip was exactly that. Instead of lashing out at those involved he asked people to show them respect. Jesus told us not to be a bad example (Matthew 5:19) because by doing so you could cause others to sin. If Chip had made a rude rebuttal that could have started a major dissertation between BuzzFeed, HGTV, and the country as a whole. God tells us not to be a stumbling block. Chip took the Biblical road and followed the Apostle Paul’s example to be imitators of the Lord (1 Thess.1:5-7).

Of course, the Gaines’ aren’t perfect. None of us are. It doesn’t mean they won’t say or do something wrong in the future but for this particular instance Chip was being a model Christian. And for that I am thankful. It is encouraging to know there are some good examples of tolerance and love on television.
